AWS Selects 24 Indian Startups for Space Accelerator Programme

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a leading global cloud corporation, has chosen 24 space technology entrepreneurs to take part in the AWS Space Accelerator program.

India offers a specialized opportunity for companies in the field of space technology, providing a platform for technological development, business growth, and mentorship.

AWS has launched a space accelerator program specifically for India, aiming to establish stronger ties with the growing ecosystem in the nation. Over the past four years, it has been organizing global accelerator initiatives.

AWS entered the space industry approximately four years ago, recognizing a strong connection between cloud technology and the sector. In February of this year, the cloud provider unveiled its accelerator program in collaboration with T-Hub and Minfy.

The selected entrepreneurs have the opportunity to receive a combined total of $100,000 in AWS credits, along with assistance in developing and expanding their products.

The chosen space technology businesses are primarily in the pre-seed phase, with a workforce of fewer than 15 individuals. They originate from many sectors within the space industry, including spacecraft propulsion, orbital and launch vehicles, satellite photography, geospatial applications, weather analysis, and space tourism.

The selected space technology startups originate from various places around the country and are not restricted to major cities. Startups are located in Mangaluru, Port Blair of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu.

As per AWS, the chosen startups will have the chance to delve into space data while also gaining knowledge in constructing scalable solutions using advanced technologies such as GenAI, machine learning, and data analytics. These entrepreneurs will also receive guidance and support in implementing plans to enter the market, securing funding, and developing essential business skills.

Clint Crosier, Director of the Aerospace and Satellite Business, AWS, said: “We specifically chose to hold this first country-focused space accelerator in India because we see extraordinary growth opportunities in the Indian space sector. There are a record number of new Indian space startups forming, there is strong support from the Government of India as evidenced by our MoU with ISRO and IN-SPACe, and India has some of the best educated and proficient talent in the world in the technical areas that encompass space,”
