Flipkart said the acquisition is intended to strengthen its core generative AI capabilities, as the e-commerce sector shifts toward visual, conversational and AI-driven discovery.

The NCLT order permits the merger of eight Singapore-based entities with India’s Flipkart Internet. The unified company named Flipkart Internet, will encompass the group’s core indian businesses including fashion platform Myntra and logistics arm Ekart.

The move comes after a similar board appointment last year, when Walmart Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs Dan Bartlett joined Flipkart’s board in November 2024 as part of the parent company’s push to strengthen oversight of the business.

Biswas joined Flipkart Datalabs earlier this year after Dunzo shut down operations. The company is currently undergoing insolvency proceedings.

Flipkart said Thiagarajan brings over 25 years of experience across product, platform, and technology, having worked in both fast-growing startups and large global companies.

The new jobs will mostly support Flipkart Minutes (its quick delivery service) and Super.money (its fintech platform).

By moving back to India, Flipkart joins a growing list of startups doing the same. Dream11, a fantasy sports app, shifted its base from the US to India earlier this year using a new fast-track process — becoming the first to do so.

This partnership is aimed to grow Alcatel’s presence in India and says its “Make in India” phones will offer modern features and stylish design, targeting tech-savvy users in big cities as well as smaller towns.

Flipkart Internet manages the company's marketplace operations in India, earning revenue from seller commissions, advertising and other services.

Jeyandran Venugopal, the chief product and technology officer (CPTO) at Walmart-owned Flipkart, resigned from the company due to personal reasons.
