Zomato Invests INR 1,500 Cr Cash Boost In Blinkit

Blinkit, India’s largest quick commerce platform, has received a ₹1,500 crore investment from its parent company, Zomato, as per a regulatory filing.

Last month, Zomato had already invested Rs 500 crore in Blinkit. With this latest funding, Zomato has put a total of Rs 4,300 crore into Blinkit since acquiring it in August 2022. Previously known as Grofers, Blinkit was bought by Zomato in an all-stock deal worth Rs 4,477 crore.

According to a source, this funding is mainly to help Blinkit cover losses as it rapidly expands and competes in the quick commerce market.

Blinkit plans to open 2,000 dark stores by the end of 2026. It has also added products like TVs, laptops, and printers to boost the average order value.

With this latest investment, Zomato has now invested ₹4,300 crore in Blinkit since acquiring it in August 2022. In November last year, Zomato raised Rs 8,500 crore through a qualified institutional placement (QIP) to strengthen its balance sheet and fund Blinkit's growth.

The new funding will support Blinkit's rapid expansion amid growing competition. The company was close to operational breakeven in Q2 FY25, but losses rose to Rs 103 crore in Q3 FY25 due to the aggressive launch of new dark stores.

Blinkit’s main competitors, Swiggy and Zepto, have also raised large amounts of funding. Swiggy secured Rs 4,500 crore through its IPO in November 2024, while Zepto raised over $1.3 billion through multiple funding rounds last year.
