Zomato roll out EV rental fleet in Delhi to boost Green deliveries

Zomato launched a rental fleet of 300 electric bikes for its delivery partners in Delhi on June 5, World Environment Day. The goal is to cut down carbon emissions from food deliveries.

The pilot program, launched by Delhi Police Special Commissioner Ajay Chaudhary, lets delivery partners rent electric bikes instead of using petrol ones.

This initiative is part of Zomato’s goal to switch to 100% electric food deliveries by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2033.

Zomato plans to expand its electric bike rental program to other regions, depending on how many delivery partners adopt it in the Delhi-NCR area. The initiative also supports the Delhi government's goal of making the capital a leading hub for electric vehicles in India.

As of March 2025, Zomato has over 37,000 active delivery partners using electric vehicles, helping avoid around 4,900 tonnes of carbon emissions in the 2025 financial year.

Zomato's Chief Sustainability Officer, Anjalli Ravi Kumar, said the program helps delivery partners access eco-friendly transport options. The rental model offers electric bikes made for food delivery, helping partners save money compared to petrol bikes.

Delhi Police's Ajay Chaudhary praised the move as a good example of how businesses can help reduce pollution. He said the program supports delivery workers, customers, and Delhi residents by offering both economic and environmental benefits.
