upGrad acquires 90% stake in early-talent marketplace Internshala

Ronnie Screwvala-led upgrad, a company focused on skill development and workforce training, has acquired Internshala, the world’s largest early-talent marketplace, in a 90% stock-swap deal. 

Financial details were not officially shared but the company stated that the deal values Gurugram-based Internshala at approximately ₹100 crore.

The acquisition aims to combine internship discovery, job opportunities, and structured skill-building into one seamless platform. For upGrad, known for online degrees, certifications and corporate training, this fills an important gap at the start of a career, helping students gain their first work experience.

“For over a decade, Internshala has addressed a key access challenge for employers unable to rely on costly agencies or campus hiring. However, the employability gap persists. By combining our skilling depth with Internshala’s reach we aim to move beyond job connections to ensure candidates are truly job ready. This acquisition strengthens our ability to build an outcome-driven talent engine for both learners and employers,” said Chirag Samdaria, Head – Corporate Strategy and Growth at upGrad.

Founded in 2011 by Agrawal, Internshala is a platform that helps college students gain skills and real-world experience through internships and entry-level jobs.

Based in Gurugram, the company has over 34 million registered users and around 450,000 employers, with about 3 million active applicants each year. More than 40% of its users come from tier-II and tier-III cities across India.
