The central government is set to introduce the IndiaAI Compute Portal, where central ministries and state governments can request computing resources.
As part of this, the IndiaAI Compute Pillar has sent a memo to all Union ministries, departments, and chief secretaries, outlining discounted rates for computing, network, and storage services.
The IndiaAI Mission
The IndiaAI Mission is expected to cover about 40% of computing costs for "eligible users," according to a media report.
The IndiaAI Mission will provide shared computing capacity using around 14,000 GPUs after the lowest bids were selected from ten shortlisted companies.

"Very soon, in the coming 7-8 days, we'll be launching the portal. So when we launch the portal, you'll come to know," IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
Of these 14,000 GPUs, 10,000 are already available with Yotta Data Services, E2E Networks, Tata Communications, and AWS-managed service providers. The remaining 4,000 GPUs will be purchased, with companies like Jio Platforms and CtrlS Datacenters expected to acquire them.
Reportedly, 70% of the GPUs are high-end models like the Nvidia H100, while the other 30% are lower-end GPUs with less power or older versions.
Yotta Data Services is expected to provide the largest share of computing capacity, with 9,216 GPUs, including 8,192 Nvidia H100 chips. AWS, through its four managed service providers — CMS Computers, Locuz Enterprise Solutions, Orient Technologies, and Vensysco Technologies — will supply 1,200 lower-end GPUs, including 800 AWS Inferentia 2 and 400 Trainium 1 chips.
Jio Platforms has pledged 208 Nvidia H200 GPUs and 104 AMD MI300X GPUs, with plans to offer revised lower bids for more GPUs during the next selection process on April 30.
The Indian government is also stepping up efforts to develop a domestic AI model, especially in response to China's DeepSeek, which has reportedly been developed at a much lower cost than AI giants like OpenAI, using older chips.
The goal of acquiring new GPUs is likely to provide researchers and startups with the computing power needed to build foundational AI models, which are essential for AI-driven chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini.
