India Blocks Several Pakistani YouTube Channels After Pahalgam terror attack

On Monday, India banned several Pakistan-based YouTube channels after tensions rose following the Pahalgam terror attack last week.

According to ANI, the Ministry of Home Affairs ordered 16 YouTube channels to be blocked in India, including major Pakistani news channels. The banned channels include Dawn News, Samaa TV, ARY News, Geo News, and others, which together have over 63 million subscribers.

The ban was imposed on recommendations by Ministry of Home Affairs for "disseminating provocative and communally sensitive content, false and misleading narratives and misinformation against India, its Army and security agencies in the backdrop of the tragic Pahalgam terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir", the news agency said.

Besides the 16 banned YouTube channels, several other Pakistani channels also became inaccessible in India, including The Pakistan Experience podcast, cricket analyst Wasay Habib, and journalists Syed Muzammil and Arzoo Kazmi.

The crackdown follows rising tensions between India and Pakistan after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed — the deadliest attack since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

In response, India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, closed its borders, cancelled visas for some Pakistani nationals, and expelled Pakistani diplomats. Meanwhile, Pakistan has cancelled the Simla Agreement, cut off trade with India, and restricted Indian flights from using its airspace.

Armies from both sides have also engaged in multiple cross-border firing incidents since tensions grew.
