The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises has launched the MSME Trade Enablement and Marketing (TEAM) initiative to help small businesses adopt digital commerce.
The initiative has been allocated a budget of Rs 277.35 crore over three years. It aims to bring 5 lakh MSMEs onto the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and include 50% women-led businesses to promote inclusivity.
The TEAM initiative will help small businesses use digital tools to grow their market reach. Through ONDC, participating businesses will get access to digital storefronts, payment solutions and logistics support, making it easier for them to expand.

A key part of the initiative is focused on education and awareness, with over 150 workshops planned in Tier II and III cities. These workshops will engage MSME clusters, especially focusing on women-led and SC/ST-led businesses.
The workshops will teach participants how to join the ONDC network, create digital catalogs, and make the most of the platform. Along with training, the initiative offers a dedicated portal where businesses can sign up for workshops and access tools like financing options and support for complaints. Financial help will also be provided to assist businesses with catalog creation, operations and account management.
“By connecting SMEs to the ONDC network, we are creating a level playing field that enables them to scale, compete, and succeed. Most importantly, this is now the right time for Indian startups to leverage ONDC to tap into the immense potential of India’s MSME ecosystem,” said T Koshy, MD and CEO of ONDC.
The initiative supports india’s broader goal of driving digital transformation and boosting the competitiveness of MSMEs. Alongside existing government programs like PM Vishwakarma and the Digital MSME scheme, the TEAM initiative aims to offer a complete strategy to address the changing needs of small businesses in today’s economy.
