Yr24 Funding Review: Top Startup Funding in 2024 Report

Indian startups raised slightly more funding in 2024 than 2023, though the ecosystem remained slow. Fewer funding deals in 2024 were made, several new unicorns emerged, while some existing ones faced valuation adjustments. The IPO market saw a boost, with some companies going public at lower valuations. Investors are cautiously optimistic, pointing to better public market performance and India's strong economic growth ahead.

Local startups and venture capitals raised $12.6 billion this year as of December 15, 2024 a bit more than 2023.

With  $665 million funding Zepto is the highest fundraising in 2024.  Zepto specialises in quick commerce, has secured $665 million in its Series F round from a variety of new investors, including Avenir, Lightspeed, and Avra (Anu Hariharan's new fund).

Shriram Finance

With $468 million funding Shriram Finance is second highest fundraising in 2024. Shriram Finance specialises in the biggest retail NBFC offering credit solutions for commercial vehicles, two-wheeler loans, car loans, home loans, gold loans, personal and small business loans.

Flipkart

India's leading digital commerce company Flipkart has raised $350 million from google at $36 Bn Valuation.

Prodigy Finance

With $310 million Funding from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) , Prodigy Finance is a global source of financing for higher education.

Skild AI

Through $300 million funding its Series A round from Lightspeed Venture Partners, SoftBank and Others, Skild AI, an artificial intelligence robotics firm focused on developing a scalable foundational paradigm for robots.

Stellaris Venture Partners

Through $300 million for its third fund, which will focus on seed and Series A investments in India, Stellaris Venture Partners is an early-stage investment firm that focuses on technology and invests in various sectors.

Meesho

After securing USD 275 million Meesho, an online retailer, has completed the first tranche of a larger investment round of USD 600 million, with a valuation target of up to USD 3.9 billion.

Glance InMobi Pte.

InMobi Pte. raises a funding round of up to $250 million led by Google, which aims to enhance its global market presence. 

Svatantra Microfin

Founded and chaired by Ms. Ananya Birla, Svatantra Microfin Pvt. Ltd. has got investment from Advent International and Multiples This deal marks the largest investment by private equity investors in the microfinance sector in India.

Brainbees Solution

FirstCry Parent Brainbees- a company that owns the multi-channel retail network for maternity and infant products called FirstCry,got Rs 1,885.8 crore (roughly $224.48 million) in funding

PharmEasy

PharmEasy, an online pharmacy startup, has secured $216 million funding led by Ranjan Pai's Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG), and others.

Physics Wallah

PW has raised $210 million led by Hornbill Capital, Lightspeed India Partners, alongside existing investors, WestBridge and GSV, at a post-money valuation of $2.8 billion.

Lenskart 

Lenskart, Asia’s largest eyewear company, had raised $200 million funding led by Temasek and Fidelity.

Tekion

Tekion, a unicorn SaaS business that specialises in the automotive retail sector has raised $200 million by Dragoneer Investment Group

Rapido

Rapido, a mobility startup, has raised $200 million in a funding round led by WestBridge Capital, to the expansion of Rapido's recently launched four-wheeler transportation service.

Oyo

Oyo, a leading company in the hospitality industry, has raised $175 million to expand its operations worldwide, including through acquisitions, and improving its business strategies.

Sterlite Power

Sterlite Power, a leading power transmission company, has secured $161.6 million for its Neemrana II Kotputli Transmission Limited project.

Sorin Investments

Sorin Investments, an early-stage venture capital firm, has announced the final closing of its debut fund at INR 1,350 crore to make investments in tech and tech-enabled enterprises at the Series A and B funding stages.

Engrail Therapeutics

Engrail Therapeutics, a precision neuroscience company focused on the development of transformational therapies to improve the lives of patients, has secured $157 million to deliver transformational therapies that improve the lives of patients with neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental diseases. 

HealthKart 

HealthKart, an omnichannel nutrition platform has raised $153 million led by ChrysCapital and Motilal Oswal.

Kore.ai

Kore.ai, a leader in enterprise conversational and generative AI platform technology has raised $150 million in funding led by FTV Capital accelerate, to market expansion and continuous innovation in AI to deliver tangible business and human value at scale.

UGRO Capital

UGRO Capital Limited, an NBFC that concentrates on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME), had raised $148.93 million.

CredAvenue

CredAvenue, a debt marketplace, has raised $137 million in a Series B round of funding led by New York-based Insight Partners, B Capital Group and Dragoneer.

Whatfix

Whatfix, a global leader among digital adoption platforms (DAPs), had raised $125 Million in its Series E funding round led by Warburg Pincus.

Purplle

Purplle, a beauty e-commerce marketplace had raised $120 million from various investors.
