The couple — Dr. Sumitra Meena and Ashish Meena — believe "every minute matters when it comes to your little ones." This couple-to-founders journey started when they dealt with a disappointing experience. This experience led them to find a significant gap in the market.

With a ground-breaking idea, they set out to address this gap. The best part of their story is that instead of ignoring the gap, they saw it as a world full of opportunities. With a clear and unwavering vision, the husband-wife duo started their entrepreneurial journey toward making quality healthcare accessible, no matter which corner of the country you are in. They built a thriving business, Babynama, a company focused on helping newborn parents.

Visionary Minds Behind Babynama

The couple — Dr. Sumitra Meena and Ashish Meena — launched Delhi-based Babynama, offering 24/7 support to newborn baby parents.

Dr. Sumitra Meena is a pediatrician, mother, and the Founder of Babynama. Sumitra was born in a village in Dausa, Rajasthan. At a very young age, she experienced a tragedy in her family, which became a turning point in her life.

Her sister passed away shortly after birth because the delivery took place at home due to the lack of immediate medical care. This tragedy led her to become a doctor. She worked hard around the clock, completing her MBBS and MD in Pediatrics from Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi. She went on to complete a three-year senior residency at Safdarjung Hospital, which sparked her desire to do even more.

Ashish Meena, who loves building technology-driven solutions, is the co-founder of Babynama. Ashish is a tech expert with a computer science degree from IIT Bombay and over 15 years of experience working with startups.

Sumitra aimed to solve a gap, and Ashish pursued his passion, both embarking on their journey with Babynama, a company focused on helping parents.

Inspiration Behind Babynama

During her residency, Dr. Sumitra had a disappointing experience. She met many parents who were either too worried or came to the hospital too late when their child's condition had already gotten worse. She often thought that the child could have healed more quickly if these parents had consulted a pediatrician just six hours earlier.

In the emergency room, she observed two types of parents: first, who arrived hurriedly with excessive anxiety, and others who waited too long until their child was very sick. She believed both problems could be avoided if parents initially talked to a pediatrician. This experience sparked an idea to address the issue and aimed to assist parents in preventing hospitalization unless required.

While brainstorming, she noticed that new parents usually have a lot of questions about their baby. They wonder whether the baby is sleeping, feeding, or growing properly. They worry about things like if the baby's poop is normal, if the baby's weight is right, or if they are feeding correctly. They also wonder how much formula to give and what to do when their baby is crying nonstop.

New parents often have many questions but aren't sure where to get the right answers. Everything can seem like an emergency, but going to the hospital isn't always possible, especially for people in rural areas. It would be better if parents could talk to a pediatrician who could help them figure out what to do next.

Journey from Couple To Founders

Aiming to assist parents in avoiding hospitalization unless required. Dr Sumitra embarked on her journey to address these challenges and provide instant care for children. At the time, her husband Ashish was working in a company, but Sumitra's impressive idea and his love for building technology-driven solutions inspired him to quit his job and work on the idea.

As a result, Ashish quit his job and embarked on their couple-entrepreneurship journey.

Concept To Creation

Working around the clock, this couple — Dr. Sumitra Meena and Ashish Meena — launched the solution Babynama, a digital pediatric care platform that offers 24/7 support to parents through calls and WhatsApp within 15 minutes.

At Babynama, the couple simplifies the parenting journey by making reliable and instant pediatric care accessible. They designed this platform, especially for working parents. It offers help from experts like doctors for babies, nutritionists, breastfeeding experts, gynecologists, and fitness professionals to support them in their parenting journey.

Launched in 2022, this platform has covered all in one place, from the common questions about your baby's poop color or sleep patterns, a minor illness to address or a need for nutrition to lactation guidance. The pediatricians are available around the clock, offering personalized support and advice.

Over the past two years, they have assisted nearly 200,000 parents in getting quick medical help and spot early warning signs of serious conditions like breathing problems, epilepsy, and autism.

What's Next—Babynama

Babynama wants to make its services affordable so that everyone can use them. They're using AI to create a chatbot that answers common questions in their app. Parents can download the app, ask questions, and get answers.

If they need more help, they can book a consultation. The service will start at Rs 99 per month. In the future, Babynama hopes to expand and bring accessible healthcare to more people across the country.

What makes their story truly inspiring is that they pursued a solution instead of overlooking the problem and ultimately built a thriving business.
