Zomato Board Approves Company Name Change To Eternal Ltd

Zomato's board of directors has agreed to change the company's name to 'Eternal Limited,' according to a filing on Thursday. This decision was made during a meeting on February 6, 2025.

The board also approved sending a postal ballot to shareholders to get their approval for the name change and updates to the company's documents.

This move is part of the company’s plan to switch to a multi-CEO structure, where its businesses—Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure and District—will all fall under the larger name, Eternal.

In a letter to shareholders, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal explained the reason for the name change, said,  "When we acquired Blinkit, we started using 'Eternal' internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there."

"We would like to rename Zomato Ltd., the company (not the brand/app), to Eternal Ltd.," he added.

Goyal called 'Eternal' a strong name and a clear mission. He said, "It’s a reminder in our identity that we will last—not just because we are here, but because we have a long way to go."

Although food delivery is still the biggest contributor to Zomato’s revenue and profits, the quick commerce business is growing quickly and is expected to surpass food delivery. Blinkit already makes up a larger part of Zomato’s market value than food delivery, according to several brokerage firms.

Zomato’s current market value is over Rs 2.21 lakh crore (around $25 billion). At its highest point last year, it was valued at over $30 billion.

The name change will depend on approval from shareholders and other regulatory approvals.
