Spirit of Entrepreneurship Has Deeply Embedded Itself Across India , Says Snapdeal's Kunal Bahl

Lights, camera, action—these words might have initially been foreign to Kunal Bahl, the latest shark on Shark Tank India, but once the pitches started rolling, the co-founder of Snapdeal and Titan Capital was fully immersed.

He was particularly impressed by the level of sophistication shown by entrepreneurs from smaller towns challenging the conventional belief that bigger cities breed more polished founders.

According to Bahl, many entrepreneurs from even the tiniest towns demonstrated a keen understanding of business fundamentals like financial discipline, focus, and operational rigor.

Reflecting on his own journey, Bahl noted the entrepreneurial landscape has changed drastically since he and Rohit Bansal started Snapdeal in 2007, when the idea of startups was barely known.

Today, he observes a shift where founders are identifying problems in their local communities and creating solutions, not just replicating trendy business models. Despite the increasing awareness of entrepreneurship, Bahl acknowledged that mentorship outside of major cities remains scarce, which can be a challenge for aspiring founders.

Bahl also shared key advice for entrepreneurs: focus on solving one core problem, understand unit economics early, build the right team, and avoid spreading too thin. He cited mamaearth’s strategy of dominating a small market before expanding as a case in point.

Joining Shark Tank was an extension of his investment work at Titan Capital, where he applies similar principles for success in the business world. Bahl also expressed how much he learned from his fellow sharks, sharing chemistry and learning from their diverse perspectives.
