Jio Platforms, part of Reliance Industries, has launched a new service called JioPC that turns a TV screen into a cloud-based personal computer.
Currently in limited free trial, the service is available to select users through a waitlist.
JioPC works with Jio’s set-top box and is included with Jio broadband plans or can be bought separately for ₹5,499 (about $64). Users can connect a keyboard and mouse to access the cloud PC, though it doesn’t yet support devices like webcams or printers.

The system comes with open-source tools like LibreOffice for basic tasks. Microsoft Office apps can be used through a web browser, but aren’t built in.
“It is ideal for browsing, running productivity apps, educational tools, attending online classes, and more,” the company said. “It is affordable, requires no upfront cost, and eliminates maintenance or upgrade worries since everything is managed in the cloud.”
However, the service needs an internet connection to work and doesn't function offline.
This launch is a big step in Reliance’s plan to boost digital access in areas with low computer use. While more than 70% of Indian homes have a TV, only 15% have a computer, says research firm Counterpoint. With JioPC, users can turn their TVs into computers without the high cost or maintenance of traditional PCs.
The launch comes four months after Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani shared plans for a cloud PC that can handle heavy AI tasks. He also said the platform would work across different devices.
“The idea of using the television set as a computer via the set-top box is innovative,” said Tarun Pathak, research director at Counterpoint. “But JioPC will require strong consumer education to scale adoption. People need to be convinced that a virtual desktop accessed on a TV can replace a traditional PC.”
If those partnerships work out, JioPC could become a way to deliver advanced AI services to homes, schools and small businesses across India.
