PM Modi Reaffirms India’s Leadership in AI After Meeting Vishal Sikka

Former Infosys CEO and entrepreneur Vishal Sikka met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss various aspects of artificial intelligence (AI). 

On social media platform X, Sikka shared that they talked about AI's impact on India.

Vishal Sikka, said, “It was a privilege to meet the Hon. Prime Minister Sh. @narendramodi for a detailed and wide-ranging discussion on AI, its impact on India and several imperatives for the time ahead.  I left the meeting both inspired and humbled by his extraordinary grasp of technology’s impact on all of us, and how its use with democratic values can uplift everyone.”

A Stanford University alumnus, Vishal Sikka became Infosys' first non-founder CEO in 2015. However, he stepped down in 2018 following reports of disagreements with co-founder Narayana Murthy.

"India is dedicated to leading the way in artificial intelligence, harnessing its potential for innovation and empowering our youth with new opportunities. It was an insightful interaction," PM Modi stated on X in response to Vishal Sikka.

Vishal Sikka is the second prominent AI founder to meet PM Modi recently. In December 2024, PM Modi also met Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of AI-powered search engine Perplexity, to discuss the global and Indian potential of AI adoption.

These meetings highlight the government’s strong focus on AI. Last year, the union cabinet approved the ₹10,372 crore IndiaAI Mission to boost the local AI ecosystem and support emerging AI startups in the country.
