Magicpin partners with Rapido to challenge Zomato-Swiggy's food delivery duopoly

rapido and MagicPin have teamed up to challenge Zomato and Swiggy. Magicpin will now let Rapido’s food delivery platform, Ownly, use its nationwide network of restaurants, according to people familiar with the matter.

The partnership will give Rapido — which launched Ownly in August — access to magicpin’s large network of over 80,000 restaurants across India, helping it grow beyond Bengaluru. In return, magicpin will use Rapido’s delivery fleet in certain areas.

“Rapido primarily on-boards restaurants directly through our merchant team, with only a very small share coming via partners like magicpin. We also work with magicpin and others in select cities as a logistics provider, where our captain fleet supports last-mile deliveries...Our focus remains on building reliable, affordable, full-stack discovery and delivery solutions for merchants, while ensuring a seamless experience for customers and captains,” a Rapido spokesperson said.

Despite aiming to shake up the market, the partnership still faces tough challenges. Food delivery is a low-margin, complicated business where managing rider payments, delivery costs, and customer offers is crucial. The two companies will also need to build strong ties with restaurants that are already working with several platforms.

Magicpin claims that it is the third-largest food delivery app in India after Zomato and Swiggy. It has previously supported apps like Paytm, Tata Neu and ola in launching their food delivery services through the government-backed ONDC network. The company says it handles over 1.5 lakh orders every day.
