Jaipur Resort Files FIR Against OYO Over ‘Wrong’ GST Notice Of Rs 2.66 Cr

A resort in Jaipur, Samskara Resorts, has filed a police complaint against the travel booking platform OYO. The resort claims it received a Rs 2.66 crore GST notice due to “false” booking records shared by OYO.

Complaint Filed by Resort Owner

The FIR was filed at Ashok Nagar police station last week by Madan Jain, who is associated with Samskara Resorts. Jain said that OYO showed thousands of fake bookings under the resort’s name, making it seem like their income was much higher than it actually was.

OYO and Its CEO Named in the FIR

The complaint names Oravel Stays Private Limited (OYO), its founder and group CEO Ritesh Agarwal and several others. They are being accused of cheating, breach of trust, forgery and conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Dispute Over Booking Data

Jain said the resort had a 12-month agreement with OYO starting April 18, 2019. However, OYO allegedly reported bookings for years outside the contract—2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21. During the valid agreement, the resort says it earned only Rs 10.95 lakh in business and paid GST accordingly. But OYO reportedly showed bookings worth Rs 22.22 crore, leading to the huge tax notice.

Husain Khan, president of the Hotel Federation of Rajasthan, claimed that nearly 20 hotels have received similar GST notices due to inflated booking numbers allegedly shown by OYO. He added that the company has had ongoing issues with hotels and four years ago, over 100 hotels protested by putting up banners saying they were not accepting OYO bookings.
