India now boasts over 73,000 startups with at least one woman director, as recognized under the Startup India initiative. This growth reflects the increasing role of women in entrepreneurship.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that over 73,000 startups in India with at least one woman director have been recognized under the Startup India initiative. 

The ministry highlighted that India's entrepreneurial landscape has transformed significantly over the past decade. Cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi NCR have become innovation hubs, driven by widespread internet access and a young, dynamic workforce. 

Startups across fintech, edtech, health-tech, and e-commerce are thriving, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as AI, blockchain and IoT to address both local and global challenges. 

The "Indian Startup Ecosystem Report" underscores the role of incubators, accelerators, and mentorship networks in fostering innovation.

Since its launch in 2016, the Startup India programme has played a pivotal role in nurturing this ecosystem. As of December 25, 2024, the DPIIT has recognized 157,066 startups, supported by 759,303 registered users. 

The programme offers benefits such as ease of doing business, tax exemptions, funding support and sector-specific policies. 

Initiatives like AIM, NIDHI, and SAMRIDH further bolster the ecosystem, with SAMRIDH alone allocating ₹99 crore to support 300 software startups.

Indian startups have significantly impacted the economy by creating 1.6 million jobs, driving GDP growth and advancing rural development. Companies like BYJU'S, Zomato, ola and nykaa are achieving global recognition, while innovations like UPI and Aadhaar-enabled services are inspiring international adoption.

India’s startup growth is supported by demographic advantages, economic expansion and favorable policies, positioning the nation as a global leader in innovation. 

The collaboration among academia, industry and government continues to ensure sustainable growth and innovation in the startup sector.
