Govt Orders OTT Platforms To Remove Pakistan-Origin Content

Due to growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has asked OTT platforms, streaming services and online intermediaries in India to stop showing content from Pakistan.

The ministry mentioned that many terrorist attacks in India have been linked to groups based in Pakistan, including the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam Jammu and Kashmir.

"In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription-based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect," the advisory read.

The advisory, issued by Kshitij Aggarwal, Deputy Director (Digital Media) at the I&B Ministry, said that many terrorist attacks in India have been linked to groups and individuals based in Pakistan.

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Indian government also banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for spreading provocative content and false information about India, its Army, and security forces.

The banned channels included major news outlets like Dawn News, Geo News, ARY News, Samaa TV, and some journalist-run channels, together reaching over 63 million subscribers.

India has taken similar steps in the past to block Pakistani content after major terror attacks linked to groups based in Pakistan.
