Flipkart Cofounder Binny Bansal Launches New Startup Opptra To Tap Consumer Brand Growth

Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal has launched a new startup called Opptra, a tech-driven company that helps brands expand in Asian markets through franchising.

Opptra focuses on categories like fashion, lifestyle, home and kitchen products and electronics.

Bansal is the founder and chairman of Opptra, which has brought in senior leaders from Amazon, Flipkart and Swiggy.

Ranjit Babu, who was the head of consumer electronics at Amazon India and the former CEO of its largest seller, Cloudtail, has joined Opptra as the CEO of its electronics and general merchandise division.

Former Lendingkart CTO Giridhar Yasa has joined Opptra as the chief product and technology officer. Anand Raj, former vice president at Swiggy, has come on board as Opptra’s global supply chain head.

Under Opptra, two franchising businesses – Exporio and Terraspan – have already started operations.

Exporio helps fashion and lifestyle brands expand into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, while Terraspan focuses on home and kitchenware brands entering India, the GCC, and Southeast Asia.

“Many consumer brands have the potential to scale globally, but navigating new markets is tough. Cultural, infrastructural, and regulatory differences make it complex, especially in a rapidly evolving retail landscape. Opptra unlocks Asia for brands by combining deep market expertise, cutting-edge tech, and a powerful supply chain. But Asia is just the start, our longer term vision is to take brands from anywhere to everywhere around the world,” said Bansal, founder and chairman of Opptra.

At Opptra, each franchising business will work closely with brands as a master franchisee or licensing partner, fully committed to their success. Unlike traditional distribution partners who focus on physical stores, they will use their ecommerce expertise to speed up market entry.

To support its franchise businesses, Opptra is developing advanced technology that covers the entire value chain. This will help brands enter markets faster, make smarter product decisions, improve operations, and support long-term growth. At the core of this will be a tech-driven global supply chain that includes robotics, automation and smart logistics. This approach is based on Bansal’s experience growing Flipkart into one of the world’s largest ecommerce platforms.
