After Singapore Foray, Walmart-Owned Myntra Plans Expansion to Malaysia, UAE and Australia

Walmart-owned myntra, one of India’s biggest online fashion stores, is getting ready to launch in Malaysia, the UAE and Australia as it works to grow its business and build itself into a global brand, according to people familiar with the plans.

Myntra’s move to enter new countries comes after it saw “promising” early results from its recent launch in Singapore.

“Most of Myntra’s international traffic comes from Singapore so that market was a natural first choice to foray into,” one of the persons said.

Myntra’s chief, Nandita Sinha, earlier said that more than 30,000 people from Singapore visit the platform every month.

“Malaysia, the UAE and Australia, in that order, where the Indian diaspora is present in large numbers, are the other big regions where Myntra has seen international traffic come from, apart from  Singapore, so launching in these markets made more sense for Myntra’s global expansion,” the person added.

Myntra runs its international business through a separate website called Myntraglobal, which handles all orders from outside India. These orders are shipped from India and delivered with help from local partners in each country.

Myntra does not have staff based in Singapore, and it will likely use the same model in the other new markets as well.

“Myntra has received approvals from Walmart to launch in Malaysia so that launch can be expected in a few months. The other regions, the UAE and Australia, are still a few months out but work to enter these regions has begun,” a second person cited above said.

Expanding into these new countries will be one of CEO Nandita Sinha’s main priorities in the coming months. In recent years, she has made Myntra profitable and strengthened flipkart’s overall fashion business so it can better compete with Amazon Fashion, Ajio, nykaa and others.
