UrbanPiper, a restaurant management platform has raised $24 million in a funding round from existing investors Sequoia Capital India, Tiger Global, and food aggregator majors, Swiggy and Zomato.

For the first time, these two food-delivery companies have invested in a company together.

The round also saw participation from Pankaj Chaddah (cofounder of Zomato and Shyft), Ankit Nagori (founder of Curefoods), Saahil Goel, and Vishesh Khurana (founders of Shiprocket), among others.

The startup plans to use the funds to expand its product and engineering teams, strengthen its platform capabilities, as well as expand its offerings to enable more services at restaurants.

Bengaluru-based UrbanPiper was founded in 2015 by Saurabh Gupta, Anirban Majumdar, and Manav Gupta, It provides business-to-business (B2B) software to help restaurants run their entire operations and brings in a suite of digital offerings to manage commerce workflows.

“With this investment, we will continue to widen UrbanPiper’s offerings to meet many more digital opportunities in the restaurant ecosystem, along with bolstering our platform capabilities”, said, Saurabh Gupta, CEO, UrbanPiper.

The startup counts several marquee restaurant chains like McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, KFC, Subway, Cure Foods, etc. among its user base. The company currently claims to process over 18% of all online food orders placed every month in India.

The startup is present in over 27,000 restaurant locations in eight countries, including India and the Middle East, with 14 million orders per month.

The startup aims to launch itself in more regions in India, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Europe, aiming to onboard 200,000 restaurant locations on the platform over the next two years. Along with this, the company plans to increase the number of employees in India from 150 to 250 next year.
