New Rule & Regulation

The Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority (Real Money Games) Regulations, 2025 ban minors (under 18) from playing real-money online games. They also restrict logins between midnight and 5 a.m.

Gaming platforms must follow KYC verification for account creation. The first login must be Aadhaar-verified, with an OTP sent to the linked phone number.

The new rules also require gaming platforms to let users set daily, weekly and monthly spending limits. A pop-up message showing the user’s limit and total spending must appear whenever they add money to their wallet.

These rules aim to regulate online gaming and ensure platforms follow compliance guidelines.

About Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority

The Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority was established in August 2023 as a five-member body led by retired IAS officer Md. Nasimuddin. It oversees gaming regulations, grants registrations, and identifies games of chance that could be banned.

In April 2023, the state banned online rummy and poker, calling them games of chance (gambling). However, the Madras High Court overturned the ban in November 2023, allowing the government to set time limits and age restrictions instead.

India’s gaming industry is growing fast, reaching $3.8 billion in FY24, up from $3.1 billion in FY23 (Lumikai report). Real-money gaming contributed $2.4 billion, and the industry is expected to exceed $9.2 billion by FY29.
