Swachh Survekshan 2024: Lucknow Rises To 3rd Cleanest City In India

Lucknow has become the third cleanest city in India, as per the recently announced Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings. The city made a big jump, moving up 41 places from last year’s 44th position. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation will receive its award in Delhi on July 17.

Ahmedabad ranked first, rising from fifth place last year, and Bhopal came second. Lucknow’s impressive rise to third place is due to strong efforts by the Municipal Commissioner and his team. They focused on better waste management, regular cleaning, involving the public, awareness drives and using digital tools to monitor progress.

President Droupadi Murmu will honor the top cities at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on July 17, and Lucknow Municipal Corporation has also been invited. This achievement reflects not only improved cleanliness but also a stronger city image. 

People’s support through proper waste segregation and avoiding open dumping played a big role. Now, officials hope to make Lucknow the cleanest city in future surveys.

As usual, Madhya Pradesh has performed strongly this year too. Eight cities from the state will be honored in this national event, including Indore, Ujjain, Budhni, Bhopal, Dewas, Shahganj, Jabalpur and Gwalior.

Indore, Ujjain, and Budhni fall under the “Super League” category — a group of cities that have consistently performed well over the past three years and shown steady progress.
