A parliamentary panel has asked the government to share details of any action taken against social media influencers and platforms accused of acting against national interest after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
"Some social media influencers and social media platforms in the country seem to be working against the interest of the country, which is likely to incite violence," wrote Parliament's Standing Committee on Information Technology to the ministries of Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology.
The panel also asked ministries to explain whether there's any plan to ban such platforms under the IT Act 2000 and the 2021 IT Rules.

The letter was sent to two ministry secretaries, who must respond by May 8.
In the attack, 26 people—mostly tourists—were killed in Baisaran valley. India blamed Pakistan, which denied involvement.
Following the incident, the government blocked over a dozen Pakistani YouTube channels like Dawn, Samaa TV, ARY News, Bol News, and Geo News for spreading "provocative" content. These channels were blocked in India with a message citing national security.
The Information Ministry also urged journalists and social media users to act responsibly when covering defence and security matters.
