The Karnataka government recently launched the Udyogini Scheme to help women from economically weaker backgrounds become self-reliant.
Run by the Karnataka State Women Development Corporation (KSWDC), the program offers subsidized loans to eligible women to start or grow small businesses.
Ranage of Loan
Under the initiative, women from general and special categories can get loans between 100,000 to 300,000 rupees. Women from disadvantaged groups, like Scheduled Castes (SC) or Scheduled Tribes (ST), may receive higher subsidies of up to 50% on their loan amounts.

The scheme is designed to be more inclusive, as widows and women with disabilities do not face any family income limits. This makes it more accessible to those who need it most.
Applicants must be permanent residents of Karnataka, aged 18 to 55, and have no history of loan defaults. Preference is given to women who are extremely poor, widowed, or physically challenged, as well as those who have completed skill development or vocational training. Around 10% of the annual budget for this program is reserved for members of World Bank-assisted Swashakthi or Stree Shakthi groups.
Steps to Apply
To apply, eligible women can either visit the official websites of participating banks to complete an online application or submit documents in person at the nearest bank or Karnataka State Financial Corporation (KSFC) branch.
The required documents include three passport-size photos, proof of annual income, a caste certificate if applicable, and a project proposal or detailed plan for the business. Once the application and documents are verified, the banks send a request to KSWDC to release the subsidy amount.
The final loan is either deposited directly into the applicant’s bank account or given to the supplier for equipment or other business expenses.
