[Funding News] MPL’s Mayhem Studios Raises Funding From Lumikai

Lumikai, a gaming-focused venture capital firm, has provided Mayhem Studios, the mobile game development branch of the gaming unicorn Mobile Premier League, with an undisclosed sum of capital in a new funding round.

Mayhem intends to utilize the new funding to further develop its forthcoming mobile battle royale game, Underworld Gang Wars. Additionally, it intends to expand its workforce, expedite the development of games, and enhance its technology infrastructure.

Mayhem Studios was established by MPL in May 2022 with the objective of creating AAA mobile games.

In April 2023, Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital India) led the studio in raising $20 million.

The development occurs at a time when mid-core and hardcore gaming are gradually acquiring traction in India. Two or three AAA games are scheduled to be released this year.

Ojas Vipat, Head of Mayhem Studios, said: “Their knowledge of the gaming industry will really help us,” Vipat said. “We want to show that India can make world-class games, and UGW is just the start.”
