Jagan Mohan Rao, from Nimmagaddavari Palem village in Andhra Pradesh, began his career humbly on the shop floor at Trinetra Supermarket, learning the ropes of retail.
Between 1993 and 1998, Jagan Mohan Rao honed his skills at Trinetra Supermarket, earning ₹750 a month and eventually becoming a store manager, laying the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey.
Yet within these humble beginnings lay the seeds of ambition. “I started my professional career at Trinetra Supermarket in Hyderabad, the first-of-a-kind supermarket of an organized retail chain, where I served as a store manager. But I often thought about establishing a business house of my own. After a lot of planning and careful consideration, I decided to launch a supermarket. My dream materialized on 7th March 1999, when I opened the first Vijetha Supermarkets’ store at Chandanagar, Hyderabad,” recounts Rao.
Rao transformed grocery shopping with Vijetha Supermarkets, starting in 1,000 sq. ft. in Chandanagar, Hyderabad, and growing steadily with a focus on quality and customer service.

Vijetha Supermarkets initially focused on stores ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 square feet but has recently shifted to larger outlets of 7,000 to 20,000 square feet. Last year it opened a 30,000-square-foot superstore in Kondapur, Hyderabad.

In fiscal year 2022-23, Vijetha Supermarkets earned ₹725 crore with daily sales of ₹1,560 per square foot. The company saw a 14.2% growth in 2023, and its same-store sales grew 18.8% in February 2024. Additionally, its own grocery and snack brands contribute 20% of sales.

Vijetha Supermarkets recently opened its 109th store at Srila Park, Hyderabad, reinforcing its commitment to offering quality products, a wide variety, and excellent service to its customers. Vijetha Supermarkets serves as a community hub, blending urban and semi-urban areas of Hyderabad.

“Vijetha Supermarkets is now expanding into other sectors such as hotels, cold chains, hospitality services, and bakery/confectionery. We plan to open more number of outlets with a bigger size. Going forward, we will open new super stores and hypermarkets. From 1 store in 1999 to 109 stores in 2024, we have plans to reach 150 stores by 2025. We are targeting a turnover of Rs. 850 crore in FY 23-24, up from Rs. 725 crore reached in the previous fiscal,” says Jagan Mogan Rao.
