Robotics startup AquaAirX raises Rs 12.5 crore from Zerodha's Rainmatter, others

DeepTech startup AquaAirX has raised Rs 12.5 crore in a seed funding round led by Rainmatter, the investment arm of zerodha.

Prime Venture Partners, Wyser, and India Accelerator, also participated in this round.

The funding will be used to improve AquaAirX’s core technology, including system autonomy, air-to-water conversion reliability, sensors, and communication features.

The startup will also grow its engineering and research teams in robotics, autonomy, controls, and embedded systems. Work will focus on testing, validation, and certification to defense-grade standards, while getting ready for pilot deployments with key customers.

Gouthami T S, Co-founder and CEO of AquaAirX, said, "The future of maritime intelligence and surveillance will be defined by platforms that can seamlessly operate across domains. This funding allows us to accelerate our vision of building indigenous, mission-ready amphibious and underwater autonomous systems that fundamentally change how maritime operations are conducted, for both defence and critical commercial applications."

Rainmatter said it backed AquaAirX for its systems-level approach to multi-domain autonomy. “They are not just building a vehicle, but foundational architecture for true autonomy across air and underwater domains,” said Abhinav Singh Negi, investment manager at Rainmatter.

Founded in 2024 by Jitendra Kumar Purnmal Saini and Gouthami T S, Bengaluru-based AquaAirX is a deep-tech startup developing next-generation autonomous amphibious and underwater robots for defence and high-value commercial applications. Its amphibious drones can seamlessly transition between flying in the air and operating underwater. The company also builds a proprietary Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (HAUV) platform for precise underwater inspection, monitoring and intervention.

By combining advanced robotics, autonomy and mission-focused design, AquaAirX addresses key gaps in maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, making operations safer, faster and more cost-effective. The startup works closely with defence and strategic partners and supports India’s goal of building indigenous, future-ready defence technologies.

Looking ahead, AquaAirX plans to expand collaborations with Indian and international defence partners, scale up large-scale trials, and prepare for manufacturing, aiming to enter defence and commercial markets by 2027. In the past year, the company has reached Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 for its flagship amphibious platform.
