Pipeshift, an open source artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure startup has raised $2.5 million in a seed funding round led by Y Combinator and SenseAI Ventures.

The round also saw participation from a diverse group of investors, including Arka Venture Labs, Good News Ventures, Nivesha Ventures, Astir VC, GradCapital, and MyAsiaVC. Silicon Valley angels such as Kulveer Taggar (CEO of Zues), Umur Cubukcu (founder of Ubicloud), and Krishna Mehra (AI partner at Elevation Capital) also contributed. Their involvement not only provides financial support but also opens doors to potential partnerships and collaborations for Pipeshift.

The startup plans to use the new funds to improve its products and achieve product-market fit by the end of this year. The proceeds will also help expand its presence in the US and India and hire new talent for its marketing strategy.

“2025 marks the year when GenAI transitions into production, and engineering teams are witnessing the benefits of using open-source models in-house,” said Arko Chattopadhyay, Co-founder and CEO of Pipeshift.

“Pipeshift's enterprise-grade orchestration platform eradicates the need for such extensive engineering investments by not only simplifying deployment but also maximizing the production throughput,” added Chattopadhyay.

“Enterprises prefer open-source GenAI for the benefits of privacy, model ownership, and lower costs. However, transitioning GenAI to production remains a complex and expensive process requiring multiple components to be stitched,” said Rahul Agarwalla, managing partner of SenseAI Ventures.

About Pipeshift

The San Francisco and Bengaluru-based Pipeshift was founded in 2017 by Pranav Reddy, Arko Chattopadhyay and Enrique Ferrao, Its modular platform-as-a-service (PaaS) helps businesses easily deploy open-source AI models in their environments. The platform lets companies train, deploy and scale generative AI models—like language, vision, audio and image models—using cloud or on-site GPUs.

It simplifies the deployment process, cutting down the need for long engineering work and making AI deployment about 30 times more efficient for businesses.

Over 30 companies, including the US-based data infrastructure company NetApp, are already using the platform. Anu Mangaly, director of software engineering at NetApp, said that Pipeshift helps manage their existing GPUs to deliver more than 500 tokens per second for models like Llama 3.1 8B, without needing compression or quantization.
