Motilal Oswal Financial Services invests Rs 400 crore in Zepto

Motilal Oswal Financial Services has invested Rs 400 crore in Mumbai-based quick commerce startup Zepto through the allotment of 7.55 crore compulsorily convertible preference shares.

Already a backer, Motilal Oswal led Zepto’s $350 million round in November 2024.

The investment comes during an active fundraising phase for Zepto—MapMyIndia recently committed Rs 25 crore for a 0.049% stake, and Elcid Investment invested Rs 7.5 crore—valuing the company at over $5 billion. Zepto is also in talks to raise funds at a $7 billion valuation.

For FY25, the Aadit Palicha-led firm posted revenue of Rs 11,110 crore ($1.3 billion). The latest funding is expected to extend its runway ahead of a planned 2026 IPO, with the company targeting EBITDA break-even in the next 12–15 months.

In addition to groceries and food, Zepto is now expanding into medicine delivery, launching Zepto Pharmacy in parts of Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad after a year of small-scale trials to refine customer experience, supply chain, and compliance.
