EaseMyTrip to raise Rs 500 Cr to expand hospitality and holiday business

Travel tech company easemytrip plans to raise up to Rs 500 crore by issuing equity shares or other securities. The funds will be used to increase investments in areas like hotels and holiday packages.

In an exchange filing on Monday, the company said its board has approved a plan, in principle to raise funds in one or more stages. This could be done through a rights issue, qualified institutional placement, preferential allotment, or private placement.

EaseMyTrip said the funds will be used to grow its hotels and holiday segments and continue investing in technology and platform improvements. The funding will also give the company more financial flexibility to pursue strategic opportunities that support its long-term goals.

“As we move ahead, our priority is to make our core business even stronger while scaling the segments that are clearly showing momentum and sustainable potential,” said founder Nishant Pitti. “The proposed capital raise of up to Rs 500 crore is about being ready. It gives us the flexibility to invest at the right time, whether in technology or strategic opportunities that fit our larger vision.”

The fundraising comes as online travel platforms like MakeMyTrip and ixigo compete strongly in hotels and holiday packages, which usually have higher profit margins than air tickets.

EaseMyTrip is also trying to expand beyond air ticketing by growing in other travel areas. The company said it aims to build a complete travel ecosystem through stronger supply partnerships and technology-driven efficiencies.
