[Funding alert] Bigspoon raises Rs 100 Cr in pre-Series A round

Cloud kitchen startup Bigspoon has raised Rs 100 crore (around $12.56 million) in a strategic funding round from Indian Angel Network (IAN).

Cloud kitchen startup Bigspoon has raised Rs 100 crore (around $12.56 million) in a strategic funding round from Indian Angel Network (IAN).

Other investors including NB Ventures, Go-Ventures, LetsVenture, Grip Invest, Anicut Capital, and actress Mouni Roy, also participated in this round.

The startup plans to use the funds to accelerate recruitment for key leadership positions and invest more in technology for clients. It will use the new capital to add more brands to its top categories and strengthen its backward integration to effectively leverage its supply chain.

As part of the investment, Mouni Roy will be involved in startups and will be involved in brand incubation and endorsements.

Ahmedabad-based Bigspoon was founded in 2019 by Kapil Mathrani, Rohan Bhatt and Poojan Thakkar, It is a multi-brand omnichannel cloud kitchen startup largely focused on Tier-II cities.

It claims to target under-served and under-penetration markets.

The startup also services other brands under its kitchen-as-a-service model (KaaS), allowing them to leverage their infrastructure to deliver products. It caters to over 1.5 lakh users every month and has several brands which include Makhni Brothers, Thali Central, Meals101 and others.

“Our journey has been phenomenal, and till now, we have served over 3 Mn customers. With the current infusion of funds, we would look at investing across various verticals, expanding our footprint and adding brands in leading categories. Our incoming and existing investors have faith in our strategy to scale,” said, Kapil Mathrani, cofounder of Bigspoon.

It currently boasts of having 80 kitchens spread across 16 states and over 35 cities.

The startup aims to expand its footprint and add over 250 kitchens across 80 cities across India, South-East Asia and the Middle East.

The company also plans to introduce two new brands and at least 150 new kitchens by the end of the current financial year.
