V3 Ventures, an early-stage investment firm supported by Verlinvest – a global family-owned investment group, has commenced its operations in India. V3 Ventures has a fund size of €100 million (approximately Rs 900 crore) designated for investment opportunities in India, Europe, and the United States.
According to Arjun Vaidya, the investment partner and co-founder of V3 Ventures, approximately 30% of the fund’s corpus will be invested in India, as per reported by The Economic Times.
“We remain bullish on India in the long term and so this is only our first commitment of capital, which we aim to invest in roughly two years,” he added.
Verlinvest, which supports V3 Ventures, has previously made investments in Indian companies such as Byju’s, Purplle.com, and Sula Vineyards.
V3 Ventures was established by Arjun Vaidya, the founder of Ayurvedic direct-to-consumer brand Dr. Vaidya’s in 2016, and Lopo Champalimaud, the founder of Treatwell, a digital beauty-booking platform based in Europe.
In India, V3 Ventures has already made investments in Kuku FM, an audio content platform, and Eka Care, a digital healthcare app.
“In India, V3 will focus on investing across the consumer landscape with a clear focus on consumer brands, consumer technology, and platforms and enablers to commerce,” Vaidya said, adding that the investment firm will have three focus areas while investing in early-stage startups. These include backing the right founders, the market size to determining the right point of entry for the business to scale, and core metrics such as bottom line, customer acquisition cost, etc, he said.
Vaidya noted that although businesses are still receiving funding, the time taken to finalize deals has increased.
