TRAI has released a draft manual to guide how buildings should be rated for digital connectivity, under its "Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity Regulations, 2024."
These rules, introduced in October 2023, aim to standardize how properties are rated based on their internet and network readiness.

The new rating system aims to make it easier and clearer to judge how digitally ready a building is. It will help homebuyers, tenants, and investors by giving a standard score that shows the quality of internet and mobile connectivity inside the building — including things like fiber connection, mobile signal, Wi-Fi setup, and service quality.
The new manual will help rating agencies use a consistent method to assess buildings. It will also guide property managers on how to set up strong digital connectivity infrastructure like high-speed internet, low latency, and good signal strength.
The rating system will help buyers and tenants compare properties based on their digital readiness.
TRAI is now inviting feedback on the draft from stakeholders by June 2, and counter-comments by June 9.
This comes as India has installed over 4.6 lakh 5G towers, and 779 out of 783 districts now have 5G coverage, according to the 2024-25 Economic Survey.
