The Tamil Nadu cabinet has approved the Tamil Nadu Space Industrial Policy to make the state a hub for space innovation, advanced manufacturing, and tech-based jobs. A draft of this policy was released in July 2024.
The main goals are to attract ₹10,000 crore in investments, create at least 10,000 high-value jobs, and build a skilled workforce for the space sector. The policy covers not just manufacturing but also services and innovation related to space technology. It supports startups, MSMEs, and large companies.
Special incentives will be offered to businesses setting up in ‘Space Bays’—new industrial zones for the space sector. The policy also aims to boost private sector involvement, improve research and development, and build infrastructure to support the full range of space-related activities.

“Today marks a golden day for the state’s space sector. The launch of this policy is not just a milestone for the state, but a significant step forward in making Tamil Nadu a key destination for space tech businesses worldwide, " Industries Minister Dr T R B Rajaa said.
“Even small companies, with investments as low as Rs 25 crore, will find ample opportunities to thrive. We aim to create an ecosystem where young entrepreneurs can build space tech companies that will push the boundaries of innovation,” he added.
Rajaa added that the policy aims to prepare young people with job-ready skills and support the growth of startups.
He said the Tamil Nadu government will provide financial support to space startups working on projects in the state.
Also, space projects costing over ₹300 crore will qualify for a Special Incentive Package under the state’s policy for emerging sectors.
The new policy also matches the Indian Space Policy 2023, which encourages private companies to take part in space exploration and services. While ISRO leads major missions, the central government is now relying more on startups and private firms to drive innovation and lower costs.
