Government Approves Rs 417 Cr Electronics Cluster in UP

The central government has approved a ₹417-crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, at Sector 10 along the Yamuna Expressway.

Aimed at boosting local electronics production and innovation, the project is expected to attract Rs 2,500 crore in investments and generate around 15,000 jobs.

“It is fully in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting manufacturing in India. It reflects the government’s sharp focus on job creation and building a Viksit (developed) Bharat,” said IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The EMC 2.0 will be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) across 206.4 acres. The Rs 417-crore project cost excludes land but includes Rs 144 crore in central financial assistance from the IT ministry, with the rest funded by Yeida, according to documents reviewed by HT.

Slated for completion by January 2028, the cluster will feature key facilities such as a skill development centre, a convention centre, and a three-storey hostel block, among others.

The EMC 2.0 project is anchored by Havells, which will invest ₹800 crore and receive 50 acres to manufacture a range of domestic appliances, including fans, ACs, coolers, lighting, switchgear and cables.

Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway and near the upcoming Jewar airport, the cluster will support manufacturing across sectors—from industrial electronics and medical devices to computer hardware and communication equipment, according to a press release.

This development follows the recent announcement of the HCL-Foxconn semiconductor OSAT facility near Jewar, with an investment of Rs 3,700 crore. It is the sixth semiconductor unit approved under the IT Ministry’s India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh is also expected to introduce a state-level top-up to the Centre’s Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). As per HT sources, the state plans to roll out an incentive package worth over Rs 10,000 crore to attract electronics manufacturers to establish operations in the region.
