Punjab-based Oceglow founders — Akshay Oswal and Aarushi Oswal — believe “a beautiful skin requires commitment, not a miracle.” This couple to founders journey was not as easy as it looks; investing ₹18 lakhs wasn't easy—especially after three failed startups.

Couple To Founders

Hailing from a business family, Akshay Oswal always had a clear vision of becoming an entrepreneur. With a master's degree in biotechnology from the United States, Akshay was determined to carve his path. Prior to Oceglow, he faced setbacks with three startup failures, but he embraced the challenges ahead, knowing that every problem was an opportunity in disguise. Supported by his wife and family, Akshay turned every obstacle into a stepping stone, pushing forward with a positive mindset and relentless determination.

Aarushi Oswal, a talented makeup artist with over 16 years of experience, has made her mark in the beauty industry. With a massive Instagram following of over 1 lakh, Aarushi's work speaks for itself. She also runs a successful makeup studio in Ludhiana, Punjab.

Their shared love for travel became the catalyst for their couple to founders' journey. What started as a simple passion for exploring new places soon evolved into a business opportunity. Together, they built a business that has flourished, generating approximately ₹7 Cr. in FY24-25.

Startup Wake-Up Call

From a young age, Akshay always had one clear goal in mind: to build his own business. While his father ran a successful textile business, he could have easily joined the family business, but he didn’t want to follow in his footsteps. Instead, he was determined to create something entirely his own from scratch.

In the beginning, he worked alongside his father to gain some experience in the family business, but soon, he ventured into the world of entrepreneurship and started his journey. Before founding Oceglow, Akshay launched three startups, including clothing, luxury travel, and one more. Unfortunately, none of them were successful; however, converting each failure into opportunity, Akshay’s unwavering belief and determination continued his startup journey.

Around the same time, while Akshay and Aarushi were in the US, they discovered something intriguing about cosmetics, particularly K-beauty. This piqued their interest, leading Akshay to conduct further research. In 2019, he traveled to Korea to explore the market, identifying key products that caught his attention.

As they shared their findings, Aarushi came up with an idea: "What if we could combine your expertise in biotechnology with my background in makeup to create something truly unique?" This sparked a new direction, and together, they saw the potential for a positive, innovative output.

Idea To Concept

The idea was clear— to make a mark in the beauty industry. But turning an idea into reality was not a cup of tea. Working around the clock, brainstorming day and night, a long research, and a little fear about the decision.

However, taking a leap of faith, they pooled their savings of ₹18 lakhs as an initial investment to bring their vision to life.

Finally, in 2019, the couple — Akshay and Aarushi Oswal — launched their startup Oceglow.

Oceglow Cosmetics- Skincare Solutions

Founded in 2019, Punjab-based Océglōw offers skincare solutions infused with the goodness of aquamarine ingredients like brown algae. This homegrown brand is committed to transparency, using vegan ingredients, and prioritizing clean beauty. Océglōw's offerings range from skincare essentials like Water Cream, Glow Serum, and Intense Hydration Cream to makeup accessories and bulk cosmetic supplies.

The company also serves businesses with a specialized B2B segment, offering high-end beauty products. Their carefully crafted gift sets are ideal for corporate gifting, ensuring beauty and radiance are within reach for all.

₹18 lakhs on Risk

Being an entrepreneur comes with daily challenges, but Akshay's bigger mission kept him going. Taking the bold step of investing ₹18 lakhs wasn't easy—especially after three failed startups. He knew the risks; if this venture didn't work, the money would be lost.

But Océglōw's high-quality products made a remarkable impact in the market. The brand's success was undeniable, generating ₹2.3 Cr. in FY22-23, ₹4 Cr. in FY23-24, and soaring to nearly ₹7 Cr. in FY24-25.

What's Next

With a growing lineup of 15 to 17 SKUs, their focus is set on offline retail and the booming quick commerce sector. With strategic partnerships with top brands from the US and beyond, they are on a mission to take their brand to the global stage.

The best part of their story is that Akshay easily could choose to pursue the settled family business as a career, staying within his comfort zone. Instead, he decided to bring a change, building his path.
