Mohit Bansal – Building Ecosystems, Not Just Infrastructure

From a Scholar in New York to a Visionary in Chandigarh

Mohit Bansal’s story opens with choices that would excite the imagination of many. Armed with dual degrees in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the State University of New York, he could have easily carved out a lucrative career in the U.S. But Mohit’s calling was different. He returned to India—specifically Chandigarh, a city known for its planned vision, to transform the tricity region into a hub of sustainable, future-ready development. Guided by his family’s values of education, discipline, and service, Mohit set out to merge data-driven insights with real-world impact.

The Leap into Entrepreneurship

Mohit’s story of entrepreneurship began from a simple yet profound observation that  India had ample buildings, but hardly any ecosystems. Trying to plug this hole made  GMI Infra or Grey Marble Infra Private Limited, founded in 2018. The aim was precise—to create spaces that not only stand tall but also empower communities, businesses, and the environment.

But his ambitions didn't stop there. In 2020, he co-founded Whispering Homes, a lifestyle meets design brand that curates globally inspired décor pieces for modern Indian homes. And in 2025, he established MindSci AI, a research-based platform using artificial intelligence for urban planning, governance and civic innovation.

Building GMI Infra – Shaping North India’s Future Cities

Under Mohit’s leadership, GMI Infra has become synonymous with scale, trust, and sustainability. Some of its landmark projects include:

●    GMI Business Park (90 acres approx.) – An integrated hub for offices, commercial and industrial, residential spaces.
●    Free Trade Zones & Logistics Parks (UP,upcoming) – A 200-acre development in partnership with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to drive industrial growth and attract FDI.
●    GMI IT Tower – A smart, tech-enabled office hub near Infosys, Plaksha University, and ISB.
●    GMI Elite Homes – Sustainable residential apartments focused on community living.
●    GMI Platinum Square - Commercial spaces designed for retail and office growth.
●    GMI Sky Greens (upcoming) – High-rise and commercial landmarks redefining Mohali’s skyline.
●    GMI Residences (upcoming) – Ultra-luxury towers with panoramic views and wellness amenities.
●    GMI IT District (upcoming) – A Silicon Valley-inspired tech district with R&D labs, co-working spaces and global connectivity.

Each project carries Mohit’s signature: green architecture, EV-readiness, water recycling, and GRIHA/LEED standards.

Diversifying into Lifestyle & Technology

Whispering Homes: What started as a passion for design is today one of India’s fastest-growing luxury home décor brands with 140% YoY growth. Its clientele includes Taj, Hyatt, Radisson, and Livspace. Through its digital-first platform, the brand has redefined the art of luxury living.

MindSci AI: Founded in 2025, this platform focuses on AI for civic innovation. From data-driven policymaking to predictive urban research, it is building real-time tools for governments, urban planners, and institutions. Mohit envisions it as a bridge between academia, data, and decision-making—helping India’s cities become smarter, more resilient, and future-ready.
Challenges Along the Way

Mohit’s journey has not been without its obstacles. Whether it was regulatory hold ups in infrastructure projects or market push back to new ideas, the ride had required patience and conviction. One of the biggest hurdles was leaving a promising career in the United States and beginning again from zero in India. But for Mohit, it was absolutely the best decision he ever made.

A Broader Vision – Sustainability & Community Impact

Mohit’s philosophy extends beyond business. As GMI Charitable Trust Chairperson, he has a repository of the ongoing people-oriented programmes and identified projects that make a difference:

●    Education: Scholarships, supplies and mid-day meals for 1200+ underprivileged children.
●    Environment: Tree planting drives, clean energy initiatives and eco-restoration.
●    Sports & Wellness: Sponsorship of Diplomatic Golf Championship, Chandigarh Rose Festival, PU Sports Meet 2025, and grassroots platforms such as Kompte Sports Festival.

In his CSR activities, he believes in riding along the philosophy of real success – that is, when communities are secured and an industry sprouts.

Recognition and Thought Leadership

Mohit Bansal has been an inspiration and a font of wisdom. And he received the following honors:

●    Build X Punjab – Vision Leader
●    BRICS CCI Conclave – Speaker on ethical infrastructure

●    TEDxPEC 2025 – Guest Speaker
●    TiECON 2025 Chandigarh – Honoree & Speaker

These commitments mark his contribution as a thought leader for India’s urban future, not so much as an infrastructure-builder only.

Philosophy – Building Ecosystems, Not Just Infrastructure

Whether it’s offering dignified housing, designing chic living spaces, or utilizing AI for good governance, his goal is still the same: nation-building through innovation, design and sustainability.

His journey serves as a reminder to all of us that success isn’t just about walking the easy road; it’s about walking the meaningful one.
