When Three Engineers Walked Away from Big Tech

The seeds of Aurva were planted when both Apurv Garg and Krishna Bagadia, ex-Meta engineers, realized there were huge gaps in how companies are protecting their sleepy data. Having cut their teeth in Silicon Valley at the time high-profile data scandals were emerging, including Cambridge Analytica, they knew that the most powerful security tools were inaccessible to all but the largest tech companies. Small- and medium-sized companies didn't have access to smart, fast, affordable data protection. So, it was a hard back trip for them and they came back to India to create the Aurva platform that can ensure that the benefits are democratized and AI-powered data security prevails.

The Minds Fueling Aurva’s Mission

Aurva is the dream come true platform of a passionate founding team. The company’s current chief executive, Apurv Garg, had experience scaling data focused products from the years he spent at Meta. Krishna Bagadia, the CTO, focused on creating scalable engineering solutions for mission critical systems. Then there’s Chief Architect, Akash Mandal, who stitched together the platform’s technical architecture, and founding engineer Shubham Ojha, who firmed up the product with core capabilities. Rather than reactive models, Aurva was looking for proactive monitoring, classification of data in motion and avoiding misuse which had the potential to become a breach. By making deployment easy and fast; in some cases, less than a day; the start up  solved one of the most enduring pain points in the industry.

Aurva’s platform stands out because it integrates without requiring agents or moving data outside the environment. It combines AI-driven classification, real-time access monitoring, and compliance automation into one powerful solution. This approach gives organizations instant visibility into who is accessing what, when, and how—reducing the risk of unauthorized use or regulatory non-compliance. By automating processes like consent management, lifecycle governance, and breach detection, Aurva not only protects companies but also saves them time and resources.

From Stealth to Spotlight

When Aurva came out of stealth in 2023, it rang warning bells in investors and regulators. The startup also raised $2.2 million in seed-investment from Nexus Venture Partners to take its product to the next level and expand its network.  The result of its work was acknowledged by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) for awarding Aurva the “most innovative security company in India” at AISS 2024. And, beyond recognition, Aurva has also collaborated with compliances platforms like Digio. up to streamline compliance with India’s DPDPA regulations, so that businesses can stay ahead of the changing legal environment.
