Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal is venturing into the skies with his new aviation startup, LAT Aerospace, aiming to transform short-distance air travel in India. The news was revealed via a LinkedIn post by Surobhi Das, co-founder of the new venture, who described it as a solution to India’s long-standing regional connectivity challenges.
LAT Aerospace plans to introduce a network of frequent, affordable flights connecting smaller towns and cities across India. The core innovation? “Air-stops”—ultra-compact flight terminals that require minimal infrastructure, roughly the size of a parking lot. These would allow passengers to bypass traditional airports and instead enjoy a quick “walk in and fly” experience.
“Think buses in the sky. No chaos. No security lines. Just walk in and fly,” wrote Das, highlighting the startup’s vision for accessible and hassle-free regional air mobility.
The idea was born out of Goyal and Das’s extensive travel across India, where they encountered limited commercial air services beyond major metros. Despite India having over 450 airstrips, only around 150 currently see commercial traffic, leaving much of the country dependent on long and inefficient road or rail travel.
LAT Aerospace seeks to fill this critical gap, tapping into a largely underserved market in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The startup’s goal is to offer a cost-effective, time-saving alternative for millions of Indians who currently have few fast travel options.
However, experts note that the venture must navigate several challenges, including regulatory approvals, safety norms, technological integration, and public adoption. The success of this aviation innovation will depend heavily on government cooperation and policy support, particularly in infrastructure-light environments.
Goyal’s move marks a bold diversification from food delivery to regional aviation, signaling his continued ambition to solve large-scale logistical problems in India. If successful, LAT Aerospace could redefine last-mile air connectivity, especially in remote and underserved areas of the country.
