YouTube will invest over Rs 850 crore to support the growth of Indian creators, artists and media companies, CEO Neal Mohan said on Thursday at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES).
He also added that last year Indian content got 45 billion hours of watch time from international viewers. In the past three years, YouTube has paid over Rs 21,000 crore to creators, artists and media firms in India.

"In the next two years, YouTube will invest over Rs 850 crore to accelerate the growth of Indian creators, artists, and media companies. And these aren't just numbers, they're tangible impact, forging countless career and business pathways for a vibrant new India," Mohan said.
Indian creators show what makes India unique—its rich history, culture, and passion shared with people across the globe, said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.
He called India a "creator nation," highlighting that over 100 million Indian channels uploaded videos to YouTube in the past year. More than 15,000 of these now have over 1 million subscribers—up from 11,000 just a few months ago. These numbers, he said, reflect real careers and businesses being built by Indian creators.
Mohan also praised India’s digital progress, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has over 25 million YouTube subscribers—the most of any world leader. This, he said, shows India’s strong presence in the digital world and its rising global influence.
He added that YouTube’s new investment plan shows its commitment to helping Indian creators grow and share their content worldwide, strengthening cultural exchange and economic opportunities.
