Vietnamese EV maker VinFast, which began selling cars in India this year, now plans to enter India’s electric two-wheeler market in the second quarter of FY26.
This move is likely to intensify competition in the fast-growing electric scooter segment, which is currently led by Indian brands like TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, ather energy, and ola Electric.
“We believe that the Indian market has huge potential for electric two-wheelers. We have a plan to launch two-wheelers in India in 2026,” VinFast Asia Chief Executive Officer Pham Sanh Chau said.

The company currently offers over six electric scooter models — including the Evo, Feliz, Klara and Vero — in South Asian markets. A few of these models are expected to be among the first products VinFast launches in India.
VinFast began selling electric cars in India in September with two models — the VF 6 and VF 7 — and now has around 26 dealerships. According to Chau, many of these dealers have also expressed interest in offering VinFast’s electric two-wheelers. ”Many of the current dealers have expressed their keen interest in becoming a dealer for two-wheelers,” he said.
VinFast also plans to bring its electric buses to India, likely next year. Chau said the company is already talking to State Transport Undertakings in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana to secure bus orders.
The company has committed $2 billion (around ₹16,000 crore) in investments for India, with $500 million already spent to build its production plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The facility currently has the capacity to produce 50,000 electric cars a year, which can be expanded to 150,000. However, the company has not yet shared details about investments or local manufacturing plans for its electric two-wheelers and buses.
While VinFast may start selling locally made electric two-wheelers from the beginning, its electric buses are expected to enter India first as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits or CBU (Completely Built Units).
