This is the second phase of development at the Hosur plant. Earlier, the plant had reached a capacity of 50,000 enclosures, but a fire in September last year paused operations and delayed expansion.
Tata Electronics has been making iPhone enclosures at its Hosur facility and is quickly expanding, adding two new units and building dormitories for workers.
Last September, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran shared that the factory in Hosur, Krishnagiri employed 20,000 people—over 15,000 of them women. The company aims to double this to 40,000 workers within a year.
However, in September last year, a major fire disrupted operations at the plant. Work slowly restarted a month later.
Before the fire, the plant had reached a capacity of 50,000 enclosures, and sources say it has now returned to that level.
