Tamil Nadu has reached a significant milestone by registering over 10,000 startups with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the state government announced on Sunday.
StartupTN, a state-backed initiative, has been instrumental in developing the startup ecosystem through funding programs, mentorship, and incubation support, said Shivaraja Ramanathan, Mission Director and CEO of StartupTN.
The state's startup ecosystem has seen substantial growth, with nine regional hubs and a metro hub in Chennai offering robust infrastructure for entrepreneurs.

"Tamil Nadu’s startup count has surged from 2,300 in March 2021 to an impressive 10,000 today, thanks to the revitalization of StartupTN under Chief Minister M K Stalin’s leadership, which has prioritized innovation and startup support," Ramanathan shared on social media.
He highlighted the government’s efforts to foster entrepreneurship, particularly among the youth who are driving innovation and economic growth.
"With strong state support Tamil Nadu is well on its way to becoming a leading startup hub in India," he added.
