Swiggy Launches 'Scenes' to Rival Zomato's 'District' in Event Ticketing Space

Weeks after Zomato introduced District, its standalone app focused on experiences, events and ticketing, Swiggy has unveiled its rival feature, "Scenes." This development escalates the competition between the two food delivery giants as they expand into experiential services.

Swiggy Scenes, integrated within the main Swiggy app, offers event listings such as New Year’s Eve parties, live music, DJ nights, and other experiences at partner restaurants. 

Unlike Zomato’s "District," which operates as a standalone app and includes movie ticketing, Scenes focuses exclusively on experiences.

Swiggys move aligns with its strategy to diversify beyond food delivery, aiming to increase revenue and enhance user engagement. This approach has paid off as Swiggy reported a rise in monthly transacting users (MTU) by 1 million in Q2FY25 bringing its total user base to 17.1 million a 7 percent growth quarter over quarter and a 19 percent increase year over year.

In addition to Scenes, Swiggy recently launched "One BLCK," an invite-only premium membership targeting consumers seeking top-tier convenience and services, a niche not currently addressed by Zomato. 

The rivalry between Swiggy and Zomato now spans food delivery, quick commerce, dining-out services, and event ticketing.

While Scenes is currently live in Bengaluru Swiggy has not yet disclosed plans for regional expansion or additional offerings under this feature.

The introduction of Scenes further cements the competitive landscape as both companies continue to innovate and diversify to capture larger market shares.
