SoftBank-backed Whatfix Cuts 6% of Workforce in First Major Restructuring

Reports say 60–80 employees across different teams were affected as the company adjusted its operations to changing market conditions.

Bengaluru-based SaaS company Whatfix has laid off 6% of its employees as part of a strategic realignment. This is the first known layoff since the company was founded.

Reports say 60–80 employees across different teams were affected as the company adjusted its operations to changing market conditions.

“These decisions are never easy and we remain committed to handling the transition with care and empathy for our colleagues. We will continue to support impacted team members and ensure uninterrupted excellence for our customers,” the spokesperson said.

“As part of this shift, approximately 6% of our current headcount was impacted, with around 4% in our GTM teams to better align our go-to-market motion with the strong traction we are seeing in our AI-first product lines,” the startup said.

About Whatfix 

Founded in 2013 by Khadim Batti and Vara Kumar, Whatfix is a SaaS soonicorn that provides businesses with an AI-powered digital adoption platform (DAP). Used by over 700 enterprises, the platform helps companies onboard employees, increase software adoption, and get more value from their technology investments.

As part of its AI strategy, Whatfix has been investing in data scientists, engineering training, and dedicated AI budgets across teams. CEO Batti told Inc42 that the company has spent a few million dollars each year in recent years to make its products fully AI-enabled.

Whatfix entered AI in 2019 by acquiring Airim, which specializes in AI-driven personalization, and later launched its patented ScreenSense technology to improve user experiences and recommendations using AI.
