Rapido to launch Pink Bikes for Women to employ 25,000 females

Rapido, the ride-hailing service provider company, will launch Pink bikes for women in Karnataka by the end of 2025. This service will be run entirely by women riders, who will serve only women customers.

“Our goal is to provide 25,000 job opportunities for women by introducing women captains on Rapido bikes. If a woman can safely travel with an unknown driver, reaching her destination with ease, it can be considered our success,” the company’s co-founder, Pavan Guntupalli said.

“We have implemented several safety measures to ensure a secure ride experience. Even women without advanced education or skills are finding opportunities in nearby towns, which is a matter of pride for us. Around 35% of our workforce comes from smaller cities and towns,” he added.

Guntupalli said the initiative will not only create jobs but also provide women with a safe and empowering work environment. Rapido will be the second company to introduce two-wheeler taxi rides in the past three months. In December 2024, Uber India launched ‘Uber Moto Women’ with a fleet of 250 women drivers.

While Rapido and Uber's efforts tackle an important issue, they are also a smart move for the growing shared mobility industry. A KPMG report called ‘Unlocking the Potential of Bike Taxis in India’ shows that over 280 million bike taxi rides were completed across platforms in 2022. Bengaluru alone had over one million rides each month, making it one of the largest bike taxi markets in the country.
