PhonePe appoints Shivnath Thukral as VP for public policy, govt affairs

PhonePe has appointed Shivnath Thukral as Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs.

In this role, he will lead the company’s engagement with policymakers and regulators, working on key strategic initiatives and shaping policy discussions. He will be part of the leadership team alongside founders Sameer Nigam and Rahul Chari.

Thukral previously served as VP of Public Policy at Meta, where he led efforts around tech regulations and financial inclusion. He has also played key roles in industry bodies like BIF, USISPF and PAFI, making him a well-known figure in India’s policy space.

The announcement comes as PhonePe gears up for a $1.5 billion IPO, aiming for a $15 billion valuation. The company is expected to file its draft papers soon.

Headquartered in Bengaluru, PhonePe is one of India’s top fintech platforms, with over 600 million users. It handles more than 330 million transactions daily and has an annual total payment volume (TPV) exceeding ₹150 lakh crore.

Beyond digital payments, PhonePe has expanded into insurance, lending, wealth management, and consumer tech through offerings like Pincode and the Indus Appstore.
