Paytm receives RBI nod for offline and cross-border payments

Paytm Payments Services Limited (PPSL) has got approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to act as a payment aggregator for offline and cross-border payments, along with its existing online payment aggregator license.

This allows PPSL to provide complete payment aggregation services for online, offline, and cross-border transactions. With this approval, Paytm now holds payment aggregator licenses for all major payment segments.

The approval lets PPSL handle cross-border payment aggregation for both incoming and outgoing transactions, in addition to its online payment aggregator license granted by the RBI last month.

Paytm had initially applied for a payment aggregator license in November 2022 but the RBI returned the application. The company reapplied in September 2024, received in principle approval in August 2025 and has now been granted the final authorization.

Paytm has joined a select group of regulated players allowed to handle domestic and cross-border payments across both online and offline merchant channels on a single compliant platform. Other companies in this group include Razorpay, Easebuzz, PayU, Pine Labs, and Airpay.

The company reported operating revenue of ₹2,061 crore in Q2 FY26, up from ₹1,659 crore a year earlier. However, net profit dropped sharply to ₹21 crore from ₹930 crore in Q2 FY25, mainly due to the absence of a one-time gain in the previous year and an impairment loss in the latest quarter.
