OYO Unveils New Check-In Policy For Unmarried Couples

OYO, a popular travel and hotel booking platform, has introduced a new check-in rule for its partner hotels in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, starting this year.

Under the new rules, couples must show valid proof of their relationship when checking in, including for online bookings.

Reason Behind The New Policy

The company has allowed partner hotels to decide whether to accept couple bookings based on local social norms. This new rule is currently in Meerut but may be extended to other cities depending on feedback.

In a statement, the company said Oyo had received feedback from civil society groups, particularly in Meerut, asking for action on this issue. Some residents from other cities have also requested that unmarried couples be prevented from checking into Oyo hotels.

Pawas Sharma, Region Head, Oyo North India, said, “Oyo is committed to upholding safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we respect individual freedoms and personal liberty, we also recognise our responsibility to listen to and work with the law enforcement and civil society groups in the micro markets we operate in. We will continue to review this policy and its impact periodically."

OYO has launched several initiatives across the country, including organizing seminars with the police and hotel partners on safe hospitality practices, blacklisting hotels involved in immoral activities, and taking action against unauthorized hotels using the OYO brand.
